Volunteering

As proven leaders in the field, we rely on current Certified Professionals in Learning and Performance (CPLPs) for help with the ongoing development of the CPLP program. This is to ensure that the quality of the program continues to be high. There are a number of CPLP volunteer opportunities for 2015. Take a look at the following information for an overview of each activity and the 2015 schedule.

To apply you must:

  1. Complete the 2015 Volunteer Opportunities Application Form and submit it by fax or email to Mike Bridwell at 703.683.8108 or mbridwell@td.org.
  2. Complete the online Content Expertise Survey.

Item Writing

    Description:

  • Conducted once per year. Volunteers are responsible for developing multiple-choice questions for the CPLP knowledge exam.

    Expertise Requirement:

  • Must have intermediate- or expert-level knowledge and expertise in at least four Areas of Expertise (AOEs).

    Format and Commitment Requirement:

    Eligible Recertification Points:

  • Earn up to 10 points. 

Item Review

    Description:

  • This is usually conducted two times per year. Volunteers are responsible for reviewing all newly developed CPLP test items for the knowledge exam.

    Expertise Requirement:

  • Must have intermediate- or expert-level knowledge and expertise in at least four AOEs.

    Format and Commitment Requirement:

    Eligible Recertification Points:

  • Earn up to 6 points. 

Work Product Scoring

    Description:

  • This is usually conducted twice per year. Volunteers are assigned to be raters (responsible for scoring candidate work products) or team leaders (responsible for rater training, scoring, providing guidance, and adjudicating work product submissions).

    Expertise Requirement:

  • Must have intermediate- or expert-level knowledge and expertise in at least four AOEs. Team leaders must have prior rater experience.

    Format and Commitment Requirement:

  • Must have intermediate- or expert-level knowledge and expertise in at least four AOEs.
  • Participate virtually through WebEx.
  • Complete three to six hours of participation (in some cases time is spread over several days)
  • Commit to the entire schedule to participate and earn recertification points
  • Sign a Work Product Nondisclosure agreement.

    Eligible Recertification Points:

  • Earn up to 15 points.

Cut Score

    Description:

  • Conducted as needed. Volunteers are responsible for helping to develop the cut score for updated knowledge exams or work product assessment content.

    Expertise Requirement:

  • Must have intermediate- or expert-level knowledge and expertise in at least three AOEs.

    Format and Commitment Requirement:

  • Attend an in-person workshop in Alexandria, Virginia (at or near the ATD headquarters).
  • One- to two-day requirement that may involve weekend work; eight-hour workdays required.
  • Commit to the entire schedule to participate and earn recertification points. 
  • Sign a Cut Score Nondisclosure agreement.

    Eligible Recertification Points:

  • Earn up to 10 points.

February

    Writing Exam Items
    Eligible for Up to 12 Recertification Points

  • Attend a three-hour WebEx meeting on either Friday, February 6, 2015, 1-4 p.m. ET, or Saturday, February 7, 2015, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. ET.
  • Complete approximately 20 hours of independent work between February 6 and March 7.
  • Sign an Item Writing Nondisclosure agreement.

March

    Work Product Scoring Workshop
    Eligible for Up to 15 Recertification Points

  • Participate in a three- to four-day on-site event in Alexandria, Virginia.
  • Must be available for all dates and times.
  • Sign a Raters Rules and Work Product Nondisclosure agreement.

Team Leader
March 12th-15th

  • Must have previous rater experience.
  • Must have intermediate- or expert-level knowledge and expertise in at least two Areas of Expertise (AOEs).

Rater
March 13th-15th

  • Must have participated in a scoring workshop within the previous two years
  • Must have intermediate- or expert-level knowledge and expertise in at least two AOEs.

April

    Item Review/Item Writing: Meeting to Reclassify, Revise, and Revalidate Items
    Eligible for Up to 10 Recertification Points

  • Attend two-hour WebEx meeting on either Friday, April 3, 2015, 1-3 p.m. ET, or Saturday, April 4, 2015, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. ET.
  • Complete approximately 20 hours of independent work between April 3 and April 24.
  • Sign an Item Review Nondisclosure agreement.

June

    Exam Review
    Eligible for Up to 15 Recertification Points


August

    Exam Review for Cut Score
    Eligible for Up to 12 Recertification Points


September

    Work Product Scoring Workshop
    Eligible for Up to 15 Recertification Points

  • Attend three- to four-day, on-site event in Alexandria, Virginia.
  • Must be available for all dates and times

  • Must be able to travel to Alexandria, VA.
  • Must sign a Work Product Nondisclosure agreement.

     Team Leader

    Rater

    September 18th-20th

  • Must have participated in a scoring workshop within the previous two years.
  • Must have intermediate- or expert-level knowledge and expertise in at least two AOEs.
