Improving Staff Procedure In Training

The purpose of this article is to sug-gest a procedure which the staff man can follow to further the conditions conducive to improved productivity of the industrial work group. The staffing principles and proced-ures recommended here were first set up by the authors several years ago as a planned approach to the staff man's job.

9Th Annual Conference Plans Well Under Way

The Conference Committee for the Ninth Annual Conference came into being under highly favorable auspices. Its General Chairman, Box Fox, Train-ing Supervisor at Esso's Everett, Mass-achusetts Refinery, and its Program Vice Chairman, W. P. "Cy" de Mille, Direc-tor of Training of The First National Bank of Boston, were both in attendance at the Eighth Annual Conference at French Lick, Indiana.

Twenty-eight industrial training exe-cutives from as far away as Llath to many from British Columbia in Canada attended a six-day training institute last July on the University of Washington campus. The packaged program was conducted by James C. Dunbar, supervisor of the Industrial Service of the California State Department of Education, and Chair-man of ASTD's Placement Committee.

The monthly meeting of the Mich-igan Training Council was in part a farewell party in honor of Lucian M. Skidmore. The likeable First Vice Pres-ident of the Michigan Training Coun-cil resigned his job with the Fludson Motor Car Company and accepted a position with the Arabian American Oil Company located in Dhahran, Arabia.

Robert S. Boaz, Director of the Per-sonnel Development Service, Seattle, was elected Vice President of Region V O at the American Society of Training Directors' business meeting held at French Lick. Boaz had previously served on the Board, representing Walter Tait during his Vice Presidency, and as an active member of the Chapter Promo-tion Committee.
