Adobe Flash has two distinct user groups: the hardcore programmer/developer and the creative designers. As an e-learning or instructional designer, where does that place you?

Rapid e-learning software relies on Flash and Flash elements to add interactivity, but most high-quality e-learning courses are built entirely in Flash. Where do you begin learning? Most books and learning sites target either the programmer or the creative designer, but as an e-learning designer, where can you go? If you can relate to these questions then this three-session online workshop is for you.

At the start of each session, you will receive sample coding and graphics via URL download. This workshop takes place in the Flash environment instead of being PowerPoint driven.

Program Overview

Program Overview

New technologies and advances in the design of e-learning specific software have made it easier than ever to create engaging projects and programs in the field of learning. While these tools have made the development of e-learning programs easier, the true test of any project is the interactivity between the learner and the program. Complex simulations, detailed scenarios, and realistic, human-like interactions are difficult to pull off using “rapid development” tools. A more advanced tool is required to take e-learning to the next level. That tool has been and continues to be Adobe Flash.

You will leave this workshop with an understanding of Flash’s place in the toolbox of the e-learning developer. You’ll know how Flash projects can be the foundation for the entire project, or tuck nicely into the rapid development environment.

Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives

By the end of this program, you will be able to:

  • Create and animate (tween) graphics, buttons, and movie symbols.
  • Design a custom interface using tools available within Flash.
  • Program foundational ActionScript 3.0 to create interactions, navigation, and communication elements from within an e-learning project.
  • Create a Flash-based online learning course using both design and programming best practices using templates and samples provided during the session.

  • Overview of Flash
  • Overview of ActionScript 3.0
  • Overview of the Flash Design Process
Who Should Attend

Who Should Attend

This program is for e-learning creators who have outgrown their “rapid development” tool and want to bring a higher level of interactivity to their e-learning projects. No knowledge of Flash or ActionScript is required, as the session spends little time in the “presentation” and most of the time running Flash. An open mind and a desire to learn this powerful e-learning tool are the only requirements.
