We’ll kick off the event by discussing some of the objectives and setting expectations for the next day and a half. The facilitators will also define mobile learning and discuss the mobile landscape.

We’ll review some core game design elements as well as goals and dynamics.

Aligning Game Goals and Learning Goals
To be successful, your games needs to help players learn something. Here we’ll look at how you can match game mechanics and elements to your learning needs.

Lunch (Foundational Level in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs)

1:15-2:00 p.m.

Understanding Best Practices and Pitfalls
We’ll review some common best practices to follow and pitfalls to avoid when designing your game.

2:00-2:30 p.m.

Creating Your Game
Now you’ll get a chance to work in small teams and apply a six-step process for designing your game. You’ll define your own game and learning goal, and select the game dynamic and theme.

Building Your Prototype
Here your game starts to come to life as you decide on game elements to include and create rules. You’ll create enough content for one complete play through of your game.

Testing Your Game
Play test your game with your teams. Document the rules for others to follow and make changes as needed. Then you’ll have a chance to play another teams game and provide feedback. Be prepared to share out.

Finalizing Your Game
Take the any new ideas you got while playing another team’s game along with any feedback from the other team, and incorporate it into your game
