Chapter Leader Twitter Chat

Next chat: Coming soon!

Are you on Twitter?  Want to participate in an engaging discussion about ATD chapters? Participate in the ATD Chapter Leader Twitter chats. Upcoming chats will be posted here once they are scheduled. These chats will be moderated by @ATDChapters

Not sure what a Twitter chat is?
A Twitter chat is live Twitter event, usually moderated and focused around a general topic. To filter all the chatter on Twitter into a single conversation a hashtag is used. A set time is also established so that the moderator, guest or host is available to engage in the conversation.  For the ATD Chapter Leader Twitter chat, the handle (or Twitter “name”) used to pose questions will be @ATDChapters with the same hashtag (#ATDchapters) used to group the discussion.  To participate in the chat, you’ll need your own Twitter account. Visit twitter.com to learn how to sign up.

Never participated in a Twitter chat before?

The focus of these chats will be topics that are strategic in nature. For example, chapter leadership, volunteer engagement, succession planning, etc.  The chat topic will be announced a few days prior to the chat. Be sure to follow @ATDChapters to get the latest news about the Chapter Leader Twitter chat. Chats will be transcribed and available a few days after each chat. We look forward to your participation!

Chapter of the Month

Congratulations to the Greater Atlanta Chapter for being named the February 2017 Chapter of the Month!

ATD highlights chapters that shine! See the Chapter Locator to link to all chapter webpages.

Your chapter can be profiled as the Chapter of the Month on the ATD homepage as well. If you’ve had a Sharing Our Success (SOS) submission accepted, are CARE achieved and innovative, and have not been featured recently as Chapter of the Month (within 18 months), you might be the next chapter for this award!

Each Chapter of the Month receives the following:

  • $500 cash prize
  • profile on the ATD website, and the COM homepage
  • letter from the ATD president and CEO
  • use of press release banner and press release
  • public recognition at the ATD Chapter Leaders Conference (ALC)
  • listing in the ALC program
  • use of Chapter of the Month logo
  • recognition in the LCN, Leader Connection Newsletter.

So, begin with submitting to SOS, make sure you are CARE achieved, and wait to hear if you will be the next Chapter of the Month.

2017 Chapter Excellence Awards

The 2017 Chapter Excellence Awards (CEA) recognize chapters that achieved
excellence in three key areas of chapter development
during the 2016 calendar year. All applications are online only.

Applications will open on January 20, 2017.
The deadline to apply is March 24, 2017.

Please use these planning worksheets to begin drafting your applications:

Apply Today!

ATD awards a $1,000 cash prize to one small, medium, and large chapter in each key area for a total of nine awards. Each chapter is eligible to win up to $3,000! Winners will be recognized during Chapter Leader Day at the ATD International Conference and Exposition on May 21, 2017 in Atlanta, GA.

Categories: No more than one small, medium, and large chapter from each of the following categories are selected. Chapter sizes are defined as: small, less than 100 members; medium, 100-349 members; and large, 350+ members.

ATD wants to reward and recognize your chapter for excellence in the following areas:

Excellence in Strategic Partnership:

Chapters that made a significant impact on local businesses and communities.

Excellence in Advancing the Profession Through CPLP:

Chapters that significantly fostered talent development in their community and for professionalizing the industry through promoting the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP™).

Excellence in Joint Membership Growth*:

Chapters that demonstrated the highest overall growth rate of joint chapter and ATD members.

*No application required to be considered for Excellence in Joint Membership Growth. Chapters submitting CARE rosters using the CARE roster template by January 31, 2017, will be considered for this award.

Eligibility: Chapters are eligible to win consecutively in the strategic partnerships and advancing the profession categories as long as they submit applications for a different program/project than the previous year. Chapters are eligible to win only every two years in the membership category. For example, if a chapter won in 2015, its next year of eligibility is 2017.

Chapter leaders must submit an application for the strategic partnership and CPLP awards.

Excellence in Joint Membership Growth: No application is required to be considered for Excellence in Joint Membership Growth. Through a match key comparison, net growth of joint members from 2015 to 2016 will be determined using the chapter member rosters submitted through CARE by January 31, 2017, using the CARE roster template. Chapters participating in the Wild Apricot (WA) partnership program do not have to upload their current chapter membership roster as part of the CARE submission process or to be considered for the CEA. Chapter services pulls rosters for chapters that grant Natasha Porter with “Full Rights” access to their account (required for all chapters participating in the WA discount partnership program). If Natasha does not have rights to pull rosters from your WA account, your chapter's roster submitted with CARE will be used for consideration of this award.

Chapter leaders must submit an application for the strategic partnership and CPLP awards. The joint-membership growth award will be calculated by ATD staff based on CARE applications submitted by January 31, 2017.

Minimum Criteria:

  • 100% CARE achievement (chapter must achieve 100% by CARE deadline of January 31, 2017)
  • Efforts focused on the past year (application must focus on activities executed in 2016)
  • Measureable results with specific examples
  • Initiative supports ATD's and the chapter's mission/vision
  • Demonstrates how the chapter advanced the ATD brand

Excellence in Joint Membership FAQs:

How can my chapter apply for the Excellence in Joint Membership growth award? No application is required to be considered for this award. Only 100% CARE achieved chapters that submit a complete member roster through CARE by January 31, 2017 using the CARE roster template will be considered for the award.

My chapter uses Wild Apricot, do we need to submit our roster to be considered for the CEA? No, chapters participating in the Wild Apricot (WA) partnership program do not have to upload their current chapter membership roster as part of the CARE submission process or to be considered for the CEA. Chapter services can pull that for you if you have provided Natasha Porter, Senior Coordinator, with “Full Rights” access to your account (required for all chapters participating in the WA discount partnership program). If Natasha does not have rights to pull rosters from your WA account, your chapter must submit a roster with CARE to be considered for this award.

How is the joint membership calculation conducted to determine Excellence in Joint Membership winners? Through a match key comparison, ATD will determine net growth of joint members from 2015 to 2016 using the chapter member rosters submitted through CARE. The chapter in each size category (small, medium, large) with the greatest net growth will be awarded the Excellence in Joint Membership Growth.

What happens if there is a tie for greatest net growth? In the case of a tie, the chapter with the greatest percentage growth will be selected. Should a tie still occur, the chapter with the most consecutive “CARE Achieved” years will be declared the winner.
