Learning Executive Confidence Index Released for Q2 2009

ASTD Research has released its Learning Executive Confidence Index for thesecond quarter of 2009.193 learning executives responded to an online invitation-only survey, contributing to a Q2 LXCI of 59.4.This score is a increase of 4.2 points from a Q1 2009 LXCI of 55.2, indicating more optimism in the performance of the learning function. Highlights from the report include:

  • The confidence of learning executives (LXs) rebounded in the second quarter of 2009, after showing signs of stabilization earlier in the year.
  • The overall LXCI for Q2 2009 was 59.4, up from Q1 2009 (55.2), demonstrating that collectively LXs expect their learning functions to remain the same or marginally improve over the next six months.
  • Each of the four major indices (impact on corporate performance, ability to meet learning needs, availability of resources, and status as a key strategic component) was on the upswing in Q2.
  • Confidence in the availability of resources increased for the first time in nearly a year; however, it is a continued concern, with this confidence index registering the lowest score among the major indices again in Q2.
  • Expectations for outsourcing on external services that aid in the learning function did not vary much in Q2, with the majority of LXs anticipating a decline in the next six months.
  • Most LXs forecasted stability in their learning expenditures over the next six months.
