SunTrust Bank’s Mary Slaughter Joins ASTD Board of Directors

The American Society for Training & Development announces that Mary Slaughter, Chief Learning Officer for SunTrust Banks, Inc., is joining the Society's Board of Directors for a three-year term, 2011-2013.

As Chief Learning Officer, Ms. Slaughter has enterprise responsibility for learning and development strategies, supporting technologies, and corporate university operations supporting 28,500 employees and business partners. As part of her talent management role, she drives executive and senior leadership development, focused on the firm's business transformation in the midst of rapidly changing industry and regulatory environments.

Prior to joining SunTrust, Ms. Slaughter was Senior Vice President of Learning and Development at Wachovia supporting 70,000+ employees in multiple business units, as well as the company's call center operations across the U.S., India, and the Philippines. Before entering the financial industry, she spent 24 years in the telecom sector with AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Alcatel-Lucent. She has extensive global experience in sales, sales management, sales operations, and merger integration.

Ms. Slaughter holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry and psychology, and a master's degree in communications and public relations. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) where she is certified as a Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR), and The Conference Board's Council on Learning, Development, and Organizational Performance.
