ATD Excellence in Practice Award winner QNB Finansbank designed the Career Architecture program around the belief that employees can create their own career path. Through this program, employees can observe different career paths, shape their own career path, and invest in themselves.

Annual surveys at the bank show that Generation Y attaches particular importance to learning and career development. With Generation Y making up 71 percent of QNB Finansbank employees, the Career Architecture program supported the career expectations of those employees and contributed to the overall strategic goals of the bank. The program was able to meet the expectations of the organization and employees at the same time.

Considering the expectations of Generation Y, Career Architecture is designed in a way that starts with the demand of the employee and continues with a structure managed by the employee. It is a holistic process that combines career development with learning and development. The design and preparation process of the program started in March 2012. Following comprehensive work in October 2012, the program was put into place. It included branch employees and employees who wanted to continue their career in a branch.

As a result of the Career Architecture program, employees saw higher customer service satisfaction ratings (91, compared with 81 for employees hired externally) and net promoter scores (43 percent, compared with 16 percent for employees hired externally). Through the Career Architecture program, university students’ perceptions about careers at QNB Finansbank increased, which led to QNB Finansbank rising seven places in a Best Companies to Work For survey.
