Not surprising, research from the Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4cp)reveals that perennial organizational challenges will persist in the coming year, including change management, leadership effectiveness, and strategy execution, among others.

However, a recent post by chief research and marketing officer at i4cp Kevin Martin, “Forget Predictions. Here are 10 Actions You Must Do to Propel Productivity in 2015,” explains how successful organizations can step up to these challenges to have a productive 2015. Here’s i4cp’s top 10 recommendations.

  1. Develop leaders who can manage beyond the enterprise and across the ecosystem, including employees, partners, and customers.

  2. Focus more on the "how" of performance management. Martin writes that successful organizations:
    • opt to work within existing systems to better align their employees with the goals of the company by decoupling compensation from their  process
    • train managers to have more frequent, quality conversations with teams
    • measure and reward managers for developing talent.

  3. Prioritize and establish a fully integrated, enterprise-wide system for data gathering. Unfortunately, i4cp's research, The Rise of Adaptive Analytics, reveals that “only 30 percent of organizations use an integrated enterprise-wide level technology for human capital analytics.”

  4. Take charge of employee data and implement data governance, as companies are “woefully unprepared for the data revolution when it comes to securing and managing people data and are increasingly vulnerable to security breaches,” writes Martin.

  5. Infuse D&I in your DNA. However, i4cp reminds organizations that when D&I is driven by a forced mandate, such as legal compliance, the detriment to market performance is inevitable.

  6. Develop inclusive-thinking leaders. i4cp's 2014 research on global leadership development shows that “while awareness and appreciation of national and cultural differences is important, the real needle-mover among leaders is curiosity about those differences and the desire to embrace them.”

  7. Ready your organization for the next generation of leaders. Martin advises organizations to “recognize their contributions, provide opportunities to receive quality coaching, and make sure their voices are heard.”

  8. Make the use of collaborative technologies an organizational competency. Organizations may need to train leaders on the use of these technologies to have more frequent, fluent, and consistent communications “to ensure greater alignment between the team' priorities and the goals of the organization,” reminds i4cp.

  9. Shift focus away from the enterprise learning management system (LMS) and associated large content libraries. Instead, i4cp recommends embracing open source platforms, massive open online courses (MOOCs), and social media platforms.

  10. Fuel your enterprise via the 4-Cs of a learning culture: knowledge that is collective, collaborative, continuous, and connected. According to i4cp, “high performance organizations are rewarding managers and teams alike for their ability to share and spread knowledge as opposed to horde it.”
