ATD wants to learn how your organization evaluates training. What’s more, we want to learn whether these evaluation efforts are helping drive learning and business results.

Your input will be part of a new research project that will provide the talent development community with a valuable understanding of learning functions’ current practices for measuring the impact of learning programs. In a report that will be released in late 2015, we will be taking a close look at:

  • evaluation techniques and tools
  • spending on evaluation
  • the effectiveness of evaluation efforts
  • best practices that characterize effective and efficient evaluation programs.

ATD is collaborating on this project with well-known subject matter experts: Wendy Kirkpatrick and Jim Kirkpatrick of Kirkpatrick Partners and Dr. Ken Phillips of Phillips Associates.
ATD last explored these topics in 2009 in our research report The Value of Evaluation: Making Training Evaluations More Effective. Six years ago, only 41 percent of learning professionals felt that their organization’s learning evaluation practices helped them meet learning goals. An even smaller group—37 percent—thought their evaluation practices helped them meet organizational business goals. Learning professionals were frustrated with the difficulty of isolating the impact of learning versus other factors and struggled with the limited evaluation capabilities of their learning management software (LMS).

These findings suggested that there was considerable room for improvement in the area of evaluation programs, and the new report will explore whether any gains have made.

To participate in our research on evaluating learning in 2015, you can take the survey now by clicking here. The survey will close on August 23, 2015.

All responses will be kept confidential; they will be combined with other responses and summarized in a report to further protect your confidentiality. Respondents will receive complimentary access to a digital whitepaper version of the report.
