The Office of Personnel Management is responding to requests on the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey for increased training for second-level supervisors and leaders. As Stephen Shih, deputy associate director of Employee Services, Executive Resources, and Employee Development, writes on the OPM director's blog, "We're committed to fostering conversations about the drivers of engagement identified by the FEVS, sharing effective tools and strategies developed by agencies to improve employees' experiences, and creating government-wide resources to provide all employees with access to critical data and information."

A new resource from the Association for Talent Development, ATD Resource Centers, makes it easier to access material on a variety of core training and management topics when you need it. The resource centers, which cover such areas as instructional design and management, are searchable by content type or keyword, among other terms.

Available for purchase by ATD Enterprise clients, the resource centers provide premium content in these formats:

  • curated books and other publications that provide relevant information
  • exclusive tips and insights from talent development pros
  • webcasts featuring industry experts in live online sessions
  • conference session recordings
  • articles from TD, the association's award-winning publication
  • Q&As on trending topics
  • job aids and tools that will help you perform a variety of tasks
  • short, practical how-to videos from ATD subject matter experts, searchable by keyword
  • ATD Research findings to connect practice and performance.

ATD has pinpointed the best content on key talent development issues, so you can find a new best practice quickly, efficiently, and effectively. The information also helps your employees grow and develop, which—as research shows—helps keep them engaged.
The Instructional Design Resource Center provides content related to needs assessment, learning theories, developing content, designing, and measuring and evaluation. It is designed for instructional designers, classroom facilitators, and other "traditional" audience members.

The Management Resource Center focuses on five content areas: accountability, communication, collaboration, engagement, and listening and assessing. Accountability for purposes of the ATD Resource Center is defined as "performance management and the delegation of responsibility to direct reports." Listening and assessing is defined as "the information-gathering, critical thinking, and processing skills of a manager during interactions with direct reports. Listening and assessing also encompasses emotional intelligence, which entails recognizing one's own and others' emotions and using emotional information to guide one's behavior and assessments."

Get a flavor of what the resource centers offer by scanning the list of upcoming and archived ATD webcasts, best-selling publications, and TD magazine articles. To learn more, contact the ATD Enterprise team.
