The New Public Manager

The Public Manager FAQs

Why is The Public Manager changing?

Since the launch of The Public Manager 40 years ago, our singular mission has remained unchanged: delivering practical, proven answers to the management challenges government agency leaders experience every day. What has changed is how today’s government workforce collaborates, consumes knowledge, and exchanges best practices. And while we are still wholly committed to delivering real-world strategies to solve real-world problems, we are rejuvenating The Public Manager to stay relevant with how you work today.

What new and improved changes will be made?

Starting in September 2015, The Public Manager will expand from four print issues per year to 12 digital issues per year. The new changes will include:

  • in-depth interviews with key agency leaders
  • easy access on PCs and all mobile devices
  • multimedia content
  • a broader community of public service by involving association, academic, and industry voices in the development of best practices
  • a significant price drop—2015 subscriptions are $19 for ATD members and $39 for non-ATD members
  • 50% more content per quarter.

Will I be able to access content from previous issues?

Yes! If you are a new or current subscriber, you can access The Public Manager digital archives beginning in 2009 here.

I am an ATD Member; how do I get my login information?

If you already have an ATD account, visit https://login.td.org/CreateWebAccount.aspx.

You will be asked for your customer number or the email address associated with your account.

I am not an ATD Member, but can I still read The Public Manager?

Yes! The Public Manager is for government leaders by government leaders, whether you are an ATD member or not. That said, you will still need to register for a free web account here: https://login.td.org/Register.aspx.

Once you have a web account, you will be able to read a limited number of articles from every ATD publication online. To access the full content, you will need a subscription, which can be purchased here.

If you require other payment or billing arrangements, please contact 800.633.4931 and a member of our Customer Care team will be able to assist you.

How many issues will there be in the current volume of The Public Manager?

  • The new Public Manager will launch in September (coinciding with the Government Workforce Conference).
  • The publication will have two traditional print quarterly issues in 2015 (March and June).
  • The publication will have four digital issues in 2015 (September, October, November, and December).

For 2016, there will be 12 digital issues in the volume.
