Embracing Entrepreneurial Skills

Monday, January 26, 2015

When companies are looking to grow, they often overlook their most important resource—their younger employees. Studies show that Millennials are some of the most entrepreneurial individuals in the workforce, with about 68 percent of 25- to 34-year-olds aspiring to one day run their own business. It’s important to note this entrepreneurial mindset isn’t just applicable to individual pursuits—it can help organizations challenge the status quo and change for the better. A recent survey revealed that 82 percent of respondents currently have or previously had ideas to create new revenue streams for their organization, but only 54 percent were able to use these new ideas and capitalize on their entrepreneurial skills. It’s clear that many large organizations are failing to benefit from their employee talent pool and skill sets. According to studies, only a little more than half of Millennial workers believe their skills and abilities are fully embraced by their current employer. Rajeeb Dey, founder of Enternships.com, says that companies that fail to retain entrepreneurial talent do so at their own risk. In a knowledge economy and competitive landscape, it is critical for businesses to foster innovation.
