In Mansfield, Ohio, there are more high-paying jobs than there are qualified workers to fill them. Particularly in the manufacturing industry, as Baby Boomers retire, managers are left with vacancies they can't fill from the available talent pool. However, many local training organizations have stepped up to the task, working to groom potential employees to become viable job candidates. "We're training people with the skills that employers are looking for," Madison Adult Career Center Director Sonja Pluck said. "We can't replace the experience of a 20- to 30-year veteran employee, but we can give them an employee with the right training to do that job." And these programs are seeing tremendous levels of success. "In all training programs, students are learning skills on current equipment and gaining industry-recognized credentials," Pluck said. Overall placement for Pluck's organization last year was 85 percent.
