Training Critical for Cyber Security

Wednesday, February 1, 9015

In today's connected world, cyber security is becoming increasingly important. Hackers can compromise sensitive data, grind operations to a halt, and cost companies millions. Many organizations think their antivirus software alone will protect them; unfortunately, it won't. Although everyday malware scanners and antivirus tools are important, these alone won't protect a company from malicious software. One of the best ways to protect against hacking is through training. Employees must be aware of the infection vectors—email phishing, strange attachments, and sites containing malicious code—that they need to avoid. It only takes one user to open a file or click on a fake link to an IT administrator page for an entire network's integrity to fail. An IT team can do its best to filter out malicious content through email filters and malicious site blacklisting, but these measures only work with known threats. By making sure employees have a sense of when a website or an email could potentially be dangerous, and the safest way to react when encountering such materials, organizations can add an extra layer of protection.
