Engagement Levels at 3-Year High

Monday, March 9, 2015

According to Gallup, the level of engagement among the U.S. workforce is the highest it’s been in three years. In February, the polling agency found 32.9 percent of U.S. employees were engaged at their job, up from 31.7 percent in February. The latest measure represents the highest level Gallup has recorded in three years and is a full 1.5 percentage points higher than where it stood in February of last year. Gallup says February’s gains might be attributed to the nation’s economic situation. As unemployment continues to fall and more workers find jobs, companies might be facing renewed issues with retention, leading them to place more priority on keeping employees engaged as a way to keep them from seeking new jobs elsewhere. However, the agency found half of all workers surveyed are not engaged at their job, and worse, 16.8 percent are actively disengaged. Although gains were made in February, the momentum of this trend seems to be slowing down considerably. This stagnation may be a result of declining economic confidence, but engagement also depends on multiple factors inside the workplace.
