Construction Industry Leverages Training, Development to Attract Millennials

Friday, July 24, 2015

As Baby Boomers age and retire, there is mounting concern that there won't be enough seasoned employees to replace them. It's becoming increasingly important to shift training practices to the most important emerging group of employees—the Millennial generation. Currently, Millennials account for about 36 percent of the workforce, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. However, in the next 10 years, that number will jump to 75 percent, or three out of every four employees. These young workers will rise through the ranks fast as Baby Boomers retire, so it is critical that young workers are trained efficiently and adequately to be successful in their new roles. The good news is that Millennials are easy to train, and hungry to succeed. In a survey of 400 newly hired sales professionals, 96.7 percent said ongoing training programs drove their job search, and 87.2 percent said career development was essential in their decision to accept a position.
