Training Future Employees

Thursday, September 17, 2015

Millennials are a growing group within the American workforce, but according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. unemployment rate for 20- to 24-year-olds is almost twice that of 25- to 34-year- olds. This figure illustrates that the members of the youngest end of the Millennial spectrum still lack the fundamental skills necessary to land entry-level jobs. To solve that problem, several companies are working to train and groom these future employees before they come through the door for an interview. In 2015, HubSpot partnered with the Center for Marketing Technology at Bentley University to create a curriculum for students based on the real-world training program the company provides its entry-level marketers. This helped students build applicable skills that would be relevant to employers upon graduation. Internships are another way to jump start the training of young people. Many companies are partnering with college career services centers to work with classrooms on real-world projects to help employers pick out the best and the brightest, while giving students the opportunity to gain real-world experience before entering the job market.
