Ohio Offers Training Funds

Monday, September 14, 2015

Employers in the Dayton, Ohio, area wishing to train employees will soon be able to tap into additional state funds. The state will begin taking online applications in October for the fourth installment of its Incumbent Workforce Training Voucher Program. The program works by reimbursing employers for up to 50 percent of eligible training costs—up to $4,000 per employee. Businesses have to pay the full costs up front and employees must successfully complete their training courses before employers are reimbursed. The maximum amount of funds an employer can qualify for per fiscal year is $100,000. Training reimbursement covers a wide range of manufacturing jobs and other enterprises in the Dayton area. The goal of the program is to incentivize local companies to invest in their workforce, understanding that a better-trained workforce will bolster the regional economy. Training can take place at the employer’s facility, a provider’s facility, or a third-party site. According to program materials, more than 122,000 Ohio workers have received training as a direct result of the reimbursement program.
