Training, Employee Investment Up in Singapore

Monday, October 5, 2015

Businesses in Singapore are beginning to understand the importance of employee training. According to a new survey released by the country’s Ministry of Manpower, more and more employers are providing training programs for their staff members. The survey revealed that eight out of 10 private companies offered some sort of structured training program for employees in 2014, up from seven out of 10 in 2012. An average of 56 percent of employees at these companies participated in training. The survey also showed that employers in the country are spending more on the individual employee. The average expenditure per employee was S$726 in 2014, an increase from S$717 in 2012. The main reasons for the increase in training over the past few years were increased training subsidies and a better ability to manage workloads, according to the Ministry of Manpower. Employers responding to the survey reported a positive impact due to the increased levels of training, including increased efficiency, improved quality of services, and a bolstered ability to meet the future needs of a demanding global marketplace.
