Working Remotely Leads to Higher Engagement

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

A new study released by Canadian-based WORKshift found strong links between flexible work options and higher levels of employee engagement. The survey found that there was an 89 percent increase in engagement if workers could perform their jobs where they chose, and 77 percent of respondents said access to telecommuting technology had a positive impact on how they felt about their work. Almost all—97 percent—of respondents said they would like the opportunity to continue working remotely or do more of it. “The stats for me were an opportunity to see if the data matched the rhetoric essentially. We’ve been talking for a long time about how flexible work practices are good for people and good for organizations. There’s a lot of good data that supports the return on investment from a facilities perspective,” said Robyn Bews, executive director of WORKshift. “There’s an exceptionally strong and growing correlation between high employee engagement . . . with some very simple things like offering time and place flexibility.”
