Creating a Culture of Health

Sunday, November 8, 2015

It’s important for employers to meet the needs of their employees—not just financial needs, but also those related to health and wellness. Though it may seem philanthropic to some managers, establishing fitness centers or wellness programs actually makes good business sense. “The healthier your employees, the better it is for your business,” says Deb Katzenmeyer, manager of the West Central Ohio Safety Council. “I think it’s just beneficial all the way around.” Healthy, happy employees are more engaged and productive and miss less work, according to Cheryl Gossard, vice president at K&M Tire. Creating a culture of health may mean opening a fitness center or offering health initiatives, or it could mean healthier snack options in the break room. In addition to creating healthier, happier employees, a culture of health reminds employees that the company cares for their well-being, helping employees to feel more connected to their workplace.
