Ensuring the Effectiveness of Training

Monday, November 23, 2015

It’s well understood that employee training is absolutely critical for a company’s success; however, traditional training methods often fall short. But, with improvements in technologies, it’s easier for managers to offer a variety of training methods that will better benefit their employees. For one, managers can blend in-person training with online materials. Both methods have inherent benefits, but when used to complement each other, they allow managers to supercharge the effectiveness of their programs. A recent InterCall survey found that 50 percent of employees believe in-person training helped them retain information. And when the training session is over, 48 percent said they would want to be able to review training materials online to clear up any confusion. By incorporating both methods, employees are able to gain a more complete understanding of the information offered during the session itself. And they have reference materials to turn to in case issues arise. Another way to ensure training’s effectiveness is to make in-person training hands on. In a 2013 Skillsoft survey, 33 percent of those polled said they would rather learn by feeling or experiencing the task they are learning to perform.
