Workplace Emergency Training

Sunday, December 20, 2015

Sometimes training is offered in an attempt to hone employees' skills, but sometimes it’s provided to help save their lives. In a world where active shooter incidents are more frequent, it’s up to employers to make sure their workforce knows what to do in case of an emergency. And given the frequency and severity of recent shooting incidents, the tactics for dealing with an active shooter threat are changing. In the past, active shooter training for civilians has been based on hiding—finding a secure area and fleeing as soon as possible. But now, companies across America are teaching employees to react in different ways. The object of a new type of training is to work as a team to disrupt and confuse shooters, and to ultimately neutralize the threat. This shift in thinking isn’t just a reaction to events like those in San Bernardino; it’s also been endorsed by the Department of Homeland Security.
