Training Trends for 2016

Tuesday, March 1, 2016

The training landscape is quickly evolving, and managers who don’t adapt will be left behind. There are several trends that today’s managers need to embrace to stay competitive. The modern workplace is becoming increasingly decentralized, and so are training programs. Most managers are getting used to the idea of employees working outside their offices and using their own devices, and this attitude should translate to training as well. Not only will this make training more flexible and convenient for employees, but it also will help them take advantage of downtime, such as travel days, which otherwise might go to waste. In the same vein, the way that training is delivered should also be reconsidered. With the technological advancements of the past few years, contextual and social learning can take place in a virtual environment in real time, mimicking the dynamics of a group. Managers should look into resources such as massive open online courses (MOOCs) to train employees where they are. Gamification is also starting to become more important. By adding incentives and rewards to training programs, managers can make them more effective.
