Creating a Leadership Code of Conduct

Saturday, April 16, 2016

Gallup has good news on the employee engagement front: U.S. engagement levels reached a new high in March. “The percentage of U.S. workers whom Gallup considers 'engaged' in their jobs averaged 34.1 percent in March, the highest level since Gallup began tracking U.S. workplace engagement daily in January 2011,” according to the polling agency. However, just because the numbers appear to be rising doesn’t mean managers should relax. One of the biggest organizational mistakes killing engagement is that engagement plans tend to neglect leaders. One way to make sure this doesn’t happen is by developing a leadership code of conduct (LCC) to align all team members and boost engagement."The LCC defines what it means to be a leader at your company, what behavior is expected, the higher bar all leaders agree to reach," writes Forbes's Christine Comaford. "I want to stress that leadership is a privilege, not an entitlement. This helps everyone understand that the LCC is essential to honor."
