Mindfulness in the Workplace

Sunday, September 11, 2016

Many organizations are making mindfulness a priority in the workplace. Once associated with meditation and spirituality, mindfulness as a practice has become more mainstream. Mindfulness training classes are becoming the norm in a growing number of businesses globally, and companies are using it to reduce stress and absenteeism, increase productivity, and help develop stronger leaders while generating more creativity in the workplace. However, to see these positive results, organizations must be deliberate in their mindfulness efforts. The first step is to reserve time for mindfulness practice. If time isn’t set aside for all employees to sit quietly for a few minutes every day (or sometimes more), the desired results won’t happen. Another way to make sure mindfulness is taken seriously and becomes ingrained in the workplace culture is to get managers and executives to participate. Courses should be offered and employees of all levels need to participate and take the practice seriously.
