Developing an Effective Training Program

Monday, October 31, 2016

Given that billions are spent worldwide on training efforts, it's important that companies get the most out of their investments. First, a training program should start with clear, definable goals. Training for training's sake is a waste of time and resources. Second, have materials and a curriculum in place that will not only achieve the goals set out in the planning phase, but also engage employees and keep them focused. For help with this, it doesn’t hurt to ask employees what they are looking for and what their expectations are. Next, establish a schedule; training can’t be effective unless it is consistent. Instead of trying to pack all the material into an overwhelming few days, spread things out and commit to a few hours every week or month. This will not only lessen the time commitment, but also keep employees from becoming burned out.
