Half of the world's disabilities stem from mental health problems. These issues do not discriminate based on socioeconomic status, age, gender, or nationality. International studies have linked absenteeism, sick days, decreased productivity, and lack of engagement with issues rooted in mental health. According to the most recent figures, it’s estimated in the United Kingdom, European Union, and United States, somewhere between 15 and 30 percent of the working population deals with some sort of mental health issue or crisis at some point during their career. Additionally, the problem is particularly dire in India, where the third leading cause of death for 18- to 35-year-olds is suicide, and more than 50 percent of people under the age of 30 suffer from some form of anxiety or depression. Compounding this problem is the stigma those who deal with mental health disorders face in the workplace. Most employees refuse to seek help because they are worried they will lose their jobs. To tackle the problem, some workplaces are starting to offer support, but more work is needed.
