Tech Is Valuable When It Helps Employees Grow

Thursday, November 10, 2016

A decade ago, technology’s value in the workplace had to do with who had the slickest new toys. Today, the metric has changed. It’s no longer about who looks the most cutting edge; people are asking If employees are advancing their skills with the technological tools their employer offers them. Technology’s value comes from its ability to help employees learn new skills, build new relationships, and develop personally and professionally, according to Gretchen Alarcon, vice president for human capital management strategy at Oracle. However, not many organizations are keeping up with the times. According to Oracle’s 2016 global employee engagement survey, only 44 percent of respondents said their companies use the latest technology to help them do their jobs. The survey questioned 4,700 employees across 20 markets in five regions worldwide. According to these results, “there’s an opportunity for companies to really think about what they could do differently,” Alarcon says.
