Mindfulness Makes More Functional Employees

Tuesday, May 23, 2017

Meditation and mindfulness have been around for thousands of years, but have just recently increased in popularity in the modern workplace. These practices are primarily used as tools to boost creativity, improve focus, build collaborative relationships, and diminish stress. Many prominent organizations, including Google, General Mills, Intel, and Aetna, offer employees mindfulness training, feeling that by engaging in these ancient practices, their employees will become more effective at their jobs. Dale Albrecht, of Alonos, believes the practice can help employees become more self-aware and practice compassion in the workplace. “Henry Ford said that the secret to success is getting the other person's point of view. This is the same premise as 'self-leadership,' whereby ensuring one is centered, at peace, and self-aware generates greater ability to be compassionate and empathetic toward others,” he says. “Having employees that are good at mindfulness could translate into higher levels of employee and customer satisfaction.” Jennifer Marszalek, of Havas Chicago Village, says that her employees all have free access to a mindfulness app called Whril, which has helped them find new ways to manage stress.
