Chapter Leaders Discuss DEI, Best Practices

In ATD membership has its benefits, and one of those is the opportunity to join an ATD chapter, a regional group of ATD members who gather to support each other and collaborate at the local level. ATD has almost 100 chapters across the US, and each year, the association offers multiple opportunities for chapter leaders to come together and network, share ideas, and learn about ATD resources.

On Sunday during ATD22, the chapter services team, members of the National Advisors for Chapters, and 65 chapter leaders gathered for Chapter Leader Day. During this interactive, half-day event, they participated in guided activities that help provide chapter leaders with knowledge and learning and additional resources as well as recognizes the impact they have at the local level.

They also participated in breakout group discussions about incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into chapter operations. Chapter leaders shared best practices and ideas on how to build a strong local community and how to best serve their members and local community.

Beyond this event, chapter leaders can connect during ATD22 in the Chapter Leader Connection Room in room W102B. They are encouraged to use this as their home base throughout the conference to network, gather ideas for growing and sustaining their chapter, or recharge their phones and take a break.

"I had recently moved to West Virginia when I had the opportunity to meet the ATD chapter president, who encouraged me to consider serving on the next chapter board. I consider myself very blessed to have had many people support me as I’ve grown in my career, and the opportunity to help support others in the way I had been supported was an incredible opportunity that continues to be very fulfilling to me. When I mentioned to my supervisor that I had the opportunity to serve my chapter, she was immediately very supportive and encouraging. I am proud that I’ve been able to be a resource to her and my team, being able to leverage the wealth of resources available through ATD to help our L&D organization expand our offerings to satisfy our customers." —Rob Hoitt, CPTD, president, West Virginia Chapter
