Stop by ATD Central for professional development conversations.

“What’s my next step in growing my career?” That’s a question ATD staff receive almost daily. If you are pondering that, stop by ATD Central to learn more about the Talent Development Capability Model self-assessment and to sign up for a complimentary professional development consultation. The consultation will give you the opportunity to access information about ATD’s learning paths for TD practitioners and uncover resources that will fuel your professional advancement.

Learning paths. ATD currently offers two certification preparation learning paths and nine developmental paths. Plus, you can create your own path.

The Talent Development Capability Model is a research-backed model that identifies the knowledge and skills practitioners in the TD field need to know and do to be successful now and in the future. It is practical and flexible, and anyone can use it at any place in their TD career. After completing the self-assessment, you will receive a report that highlights your proficiencies and skills gaps in each of the model’s 23 capabilities.

“Upskilling and professionalization are reasons practitioners look to ATD as a resource,” says Courtney Vital, CPTD, vice presidents of ATD Education. “Our Talent Development Capability Model was created in response to that. The interactivity and personalization we’ve built into the self-assessment is groundbreaking. The technology is empowering, letting you personally answer the question we hear most often: ‘What ATD resources should I engage with’?”

Vital notes that the model’s breadth—covering its personal, professional, and organizational domains—and its inherent flexibility make it a tool TD professionals can use throughout their careers. Organizations can also use it to plan development for their teams.

Self-assessment. Completing the self-assessment will give you insights into your knowledge and skill proficiencies, which you can use to inform your choices about which ATD22 sessions to attend; most sessions are aligned to the model’s capabilities. If you haven’t already taken the assessment, that’s OK. You still can. It takes about 60–90 minutes to complete. Get started at td.org/capability-model/access.

Complimentary consultation. The self-assessment is also your first step toward creating a personalized learning plan. While the capability model tool surfaces recommended resources for closing skills gaps, it can be overwhelming to know which combination of resources is right. That’s where the complimentary consultation with ATD staff during ATD22 can help.

Consultations are by appointment today through Wednesday. Schedule your consultation in the Conferences app. Then bring your self-assessment results to your consultation and talk through which resources can help you advance your career. Armed with those insights, you can create an actionable learning plan and keep track of your progress within the TD Capability Model tool as part of your profile.

Vital notes, “We realized there was an opportunity to provide a more learner-focused conversation to give attendees a place and space to share professional needs and aspirations.” Stop by ATD Central to learn more about the self-assessment, professional development consultation, learning paths, and more.
