ATD CI Recertification Program Preapprovals

Key benefits to offering a preapproved APTD/CPLP Recertification points include:

• All approved continuing education programs will be included in a directory of APTD/CPLP Recertification Preapproved Programs and posted online.
• APTDs and CPLPs will be confident that successfully completing the approved program qualifies for recertification points.

Qualifications and Guidelines
Programs may include conferences, college/university courses, seminars, webinars, webcasts, podcasts, e-learning programs, and others. Each continuing education program must meet the following qualifications:
1. Provider must have the resources, facilities and administrative support to effectively deliver talent development or Talent Development (TD)-related programming.
2. Provider must offer appropriate high-quality programming, developed and presented by appropriate subject matter experts.
3. Program Content must be Talent Development or TD-related as defined by the ten Areas of Expertise (AOEs) on the ATD Competency Model.
4. Approval and credits are awarded based on the educational time spent on TD or TD-related activities at the rate of one point per physical hour. Meals, breaks, networking, and non-TD or TD-related activities will not be counted towards educational time. A maximum number of points will be preapproved based on the timed agenda for the program. The provider will assign the earned points to each participant based on participation. The maximum number of points can be awarded only to those participants who participated in the full program.
5. A process must be in place to track attendee participation/completion.

1. 1-hour educational program = 1 APTD/CPLP Recertification point
2. 1-hour and 15 minute conference session = 1.25 APTD/CPLP Recertification points
3. 3-hour e-learning course = 3 APTD/CPLP Recertification points

Application Process
Organizations wishing to apply their program(s) for Pre-approval Status for APTD/CPLP Recertification points please follow the steps below:
1. Submit a signed and completed application along with a timed agenda and supporting documents for each continuing education program. Email to certification@td.org or by mail to:
c/o Virginia Sawall
1640 King Street

A $150 non-refundable application fee is required with each application. Note: If two applications are submitted, each requires the $150 application fee.
2. The provider’s designated point of contact will be notified via e-mail when the application has been reviewed and approved or denied.
o If an application is denied, the provider will be advised of the reason for the denial and of any opportunity for resubmission.
o If an application is approved, the provider will receive the APTD/CPLP Preapproved Seal for inclusion on promotional materials and an explanation of the maximum number of points to be awarded.

A renewal e-mail notification will be emailed to the provider’s point of contact 30 days before the expiration date of the one-year approval period. The provider must submit the renewal application and renewal fees before expiration date. If renewal is not complete before the expiration date, approval ends. To continue as a preapproved program would require application as a new program.

ATD CI reserves the right to maintain the quality and integrity of the APTD/CPLP Preapproved Recertification program by:
1. Awarding APTD/CPLP Recertification Preapproved Program status only if the qualifications are met.
2. Required documentation includes program content, detailed timed agenda showing all meals/sessions/breaks and starting/ending times, and presenter biographies.
3. Terminating the APTD/CPLP Recertification Preapproved status if there is evidence of the provider's failure to uphold APTD/CPLP Recertification program guidelines

Denial & Termination
ATD CI aims to work with each APTD/CPLP Recertification Preapproved Program applicant to ensure a smooth application process. If an application is denied APTD/CPLP Recertification Preapproval, the provider may appeal the decision within 30 days.
