Professional certifications, such as the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) and the new Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD), validate knowledge and skills and demonstrate expertise.

The CPLP is a mark of distinction offered by the ATD Certification Institute. It is broad in scope and addresses a talent development professional’s knowledge in 10 areas of expertise, as defined by the ATD Competency Model.

CPLP Requirements:

  • five years of full-time experience in talent development
  • a passing score on two rigorous exams
  • recertification every three years.

APTD Requirements:

  • three years of experience in talent development or related field
  • a passing score on one rigorous exam
  • recertification every three years.
