Global discussions on diversity, equity, and inclusion rose to the forefront in 2020. For most, they weren’t the first conversations, and as businesses expand and prioritize DEI efforts, those talks won’t be the last.

ATD is doing its part to keep DEI front and center for talent development professionals with ongoing quarterly virtual DEI discussions. “Cultural awareness and inclusion are crucial capabilities to talent development professionals who are committed to creating a world that works better,” series moderator and ATD content manager Eliza Blanchard, APTD, said when introducing the series.

The DE&I Discussion Series launched in January 2021 with a three-part conversation with thought leaders Rita Bailey, founder of Up to Something; Elaine Biech, president of ebb associates; and business leader Tonya Wilson. Blanchard moderates the sessions. The discussion focused on three topics: “DE&I and Me,” “Getting Comfortable Being Uncomfortable,” and “Sustaining DE&I and Tools You Can Use” and laid the foundation for later sessions that will explore different areas where DEI collides with talent development.

Bailey, Biech, and Wilson debunked the myths about equity in their June conversation. And on September 17, they will share highlights from their panel discussion “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Discussing the Undiscussables,” which took place yesterday during ATD21, and reflect on other leaders’ and learners’ perspectives related to the opportunities and challenges associated with DEI.
