The ATD 2019 Opening General Session will feature Oprah on Monday, May 20. The session will begin at 8:30 a.m., and attendees will be able to line up inside the convention center, in front of Hall B on the Concourse Level, beginning at 6:30 a.m.
Here are important details about the General Session:
Will I be able to leave the General Session after it starts?
Attendees who choose to leave the General Session will not be able to re-enter without returning to the line. Other attendees may not hold seats. Note: There are several restrooms located inside the General Session hall, so you can use the restroom without leaving the room.
What items are allowed in the General Session?
The ATD 2019 backpack is the largest bag that is allowed in the General Session. Please use its size as your guide if you plan to bring a different bag (a laptop bag, for example). Bags on wheels are not permitted.

||No oversized backpacks, wheeled bags, luggage, or strollers.|
|Smartphones, mobile devices, and laptops may be brought into the General Session.||No cameras, selfie sticks, or recording devices. Photography is not permitted. You may not use a smartphone or mobile device to take photos.|
|Food and beverages purchased inside the convention center are allowed in the General Session.||No metal containers—this includes metal water bottles, thermoses, or similar items.|
|No weapons of any kind—including firearms, knives, pepper spray, or stun guns.|
Do I have the right type of registration to attend the General Session?
Full Conference, Exhibitor Full Conference, Speaker Full Conference, or Daily Monday registration types will be admitted to the May 20 General Session. No other registration types will be admitted.
Ribbons attached to a badge are not part of your registration. Ribbons do not provide access to General Sessions.
May I hold a place in line or save seats for my colleagues?
It is not possible to hold a place in line or save seats for your colleagues. When standing in line, please be considerate of others in front of or behind you who may need to step out to use the restroom.
Will I find a seat in Monday’s General Session?
ATD has maximized seating capacity in the General Session and will have seats available for those attendees with the correct registration credentials (see above). Ushers will assist you to locate a seat.
