Refine your resume, get advice from a career coach, and take the perfect photo for your LinkedIn profile at the ATD 2019 Career Center, located in Room 149 in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Those and other services and events are available to all conference attendees—at no extra cost.
Making or planning career decisions is almost never easy, and talking to an expert can make a huge difference. A group of 10 International Coach Federation-credentialed coaches are offering free 45-minute career coaching sessions through the Career Center. In these sessions, you can discuss any topic you see as important to advancing in or changing your career. Coaches can help you define obstacles, determine strengths, find a clear path or goals for the future, and identify what you need to do to get there.
Coaching sessions will be available at select times throughout the conference, but the number of appointments is limited. Those wishing to participate need to sign up in advance by stopping by the Career Center; there is no online option.
Whether it’s for your LinkedIn profile, personal website, or company intranet, a quality professional headshot can be a great asset for your career. Have your photo taken at the Career Center’s headshot lounge by Clay Chapman Photography from noon to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.
Registration is not required to receive a headshot. Simply come to the headshot lounge, which is located just outside the main Career Center area. After having your picture taken, you’ll receive a card from the photographer with a link to download your photos.
Other special events
The Career Center also will feature several other opportunities to learn about career-minded topics and get feedback from others.
On Monday at 1 p.m., Tara Jaye Frank, a leadership development expert, will present “What’s Your Story?” Delivered as a tutorial, this presentation will show you how to think critically about your current reality and inspire you to create a new narrative that will not only motivate you but also equip you to move closer to unlocking your full professional potential. Space is limited, but the presentation will be held again during the same time slot on Tuesday. If you’re unable to attend, Frank’s presentation materials are available in the ATD Events app.
Also on Monday, the Career Center will hold a series of Resume Roundtables from 2 to 3 p.m. During these, participants will sit with peers and share feedback about each other’s resumes. They’ll also receive help from resume experts, who will float between groups. To get the most value from the session, participants should bring 10 printed copies of their resume. Advance registration is not required; however, seats may be limited by space.
There will also be a “Cookies With Candidates” mini job fair from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday. Attendees will be able to meet potential employers and some of the most qualified talent development professionals in the industry. You’ll walk away with new connections and opportunities—and a cookie. The International Coach Federation is sponsoring the Career Center.
