Eight days in Five cities between two countries—this is how far and how fast we traveled for the ASTD 2014 International Conference & Exposition regional workshops. During the past few months, we teamed up with international delegations from Europe, Asia, and Latin America to spread the excitement of the conference. The travel was tiring, but it was well worth it.
During those regional workshops, we shared the trending topics in the field, invited featured speakers to preview their conference presentation, and answered questions about the conference. If you missed the events, you can read the workshop handouts here.
One of the most frequently asked questions from those workshops is, ”Why is it important for people to travel all around the world to attend this event this year?” There are many great reasons that we can share. Here are my favorites:
You must hear the exciting and refreshing keynote speech. Every year we line up top tier speakers from diverse backgrounds to address the audience. This year we have Arianna Huffington, one of Forbes’ “Most Powerful Women,”, former four-star General Stan McChrystal, and creativity guru Kevin Carroll. Make sure to be there early to grab a seat close to the front, since there will be thousands of people at these very popular events.
Meet the legends of our field. Bob Pike, Elaine Biech, Ruth Clark, and Jack Philips are just a few examples of our legendary speakers. Those leaders made significant contributions to the profession and they continue to bring new ideas and tools to our industry. If you can stand the long lines, you can also take pictures with them!
Network and learn from L&D professionals from around the world. Upon walking into the convention center, you will see attendees from different cultures, speaking different languages. The content of ASTD 2014 covers best practices and case studies from all around the world. This is the most international event in the learning and development filed. Spend some time in the Global Village and you will certainly make some new friends!
Visit Washington D.C.! D.C. is one of the most desired destinations in the U.S. There are so many fantastic attractions, including monuments, museums, embassies, and universities. Also, it is the home of ASTD and ASTD employees. We are so excited to welcome our attendees to this wonderful city!
I hope you will join me and the other 9,000 attendees from around the world this May in D.C.
If you do join us, please drop by the Global Village to say hello.
We look forward to seeing you in Washington D.C., where learning is happening across borders!
Join more than 9,000 of your learning colleagues from around the globe in Washington, D.C., May 4-7, 2014, to share best practices and insights at the ASTD 2014 International Conference & EXPO.
