Jenn Buckley is a technical writer/trainer, ID, PM for J Buckley Consulting who earned the Microlearning Certificate.

What motivated you to enroll in the ATD Microlearning Certificate course? I wanted to learn more about it—looking for a more formal process than just “make it short.”

In what ways has this course contributed to your career and/or personal growth?

It’s too soon to know but so far, this has filled in some knowledge gaps and provided a concrete process that I can use for client education and to direct conversations about different options to achieve their goals.

Would you recommend the Microlearning Certificate course to others?

Yes! I think this is a great on-ramp for those new to the world of L&D and the idea that there are models and processes to follow to get results.

How do you plan to apply the knowledge and skills acquired from this course in your personal or professional life?

I can use what I learned for client education and to direct conversations about different options to achieve their goals.

How did you initially become involved in the talent development field?

I left the teaching profession because I couldn’t find a job (graduating during a recession didn’t help) and took a position as a software trainer in the corporate world. I’ve never looked back.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

“The only way out is through” (Robert Frost) can mean a variety of things, but ultimately, it means to directly confront the issue at hand. I’ve had several managers/bosses who believed this, and I’ve learned that this is great advice.

Can you recommend a great book you have read recently?

Shock of the New, Chad Udell and Gary Woodill

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?

Sailing, travel/history, reading

What is the most unusual or unique job you have held?

Mucking stalls (aka “shoveling horse poop”)
