(From the Tribune-Democrat) More than $3.7 million in federal stimulus money is coming to the
Southern Alleghenies Workforce Investment Board to enhance job
development services in Cambria, Somerset, Bedford, Blair, Fulton and
Huntingdon counties.
The money is being spent on paid summer
work for young people aged 14 to 24; tuition aid and support services
for eligible adults and dislocated workers prepared to enter training
programs; and to prepare the recently unemployed to re-enter the
workplace or classroom.
"Our goal is to offer an outstanding
paid work experience program to over 400 young people this summer,
quadruple the number we normally serve each year,'' said Susan Whisler, director of the Altoona-based agency.
