Conference Daily interviews Andrew Campbell, training specialist at Johns Hopkins University.
Meet your fellow attendees as the Conference Daily interviews learning industry professionals at ATD24. In this third article in the series, we interview Andrew Campbell, training specialist at Johns Hopkins University.
On why he’s attending ATD’s International Conference & EXPO: I just became a professional trainer about a year ago. My supervisor said, “We need to develop you,” and this was high on the list of events to join, so this is my first time \[at an ATD conference\].
On his first day: It’s a lot to take in. Seeing a lot of people in the same profession as me is pretty exciting. I’m excited to learn a lot these next couple of days.
On what he’s looking forward to: I still have to look at the schedule and figure out which sessions I’m going to. But I’m interested in networking and connecting.
On his role: I work in dining services. So, I have to maintain training records for all 200 of our employees, 15 of our supervisors, and I’m responsible for hiring and onboarding as well.
On getting into the L&D field: I was working in bars and restaurants up until COVID-19, and I had some training capabilities there. I found myself in university dining after COVID-19, and then, naturally, my love of university dining and training merged. And now I’ve got my career.
