If you’re struggling with turnover at your organization, you might need to look into your employees’ attitudes regarding upward mobility. According to a recent report by Randstad RiseSmart, about 43 percent of employees said they aren’t optimistic about being promoted at their current organization. The report also demonstrated this attitude likely comes as a surprise to most employers. The study revealed 86 percent of employers say they look to hire internally, and 73 percent say they believe they offer their employees plenty of career development opportunities. “Individuals are telling us that they want to learn new skills to be able to grow and develop their careers, and businesses want to train their employees so they can advance within the company. But for some reason, they can’t get on the same page,” Randstad RiseSmart CEO Dan Davenport said in a press release. Coaching, however, might be the bridge employers need. “We think coaching is a great tool to leverage,” he added. “Particularly external coaches who can come in and provide a safe place for employees to have discussions about what’s important to them and how they can grow and build successful careers inside the company. We find that has a big impact.”
