If you want to remain competitive in today's ever-evolving business world, you need a resilient workforce with the right skills that they can adapt when necessary. This is no easy feat, especially considering that traditional hiring practices are outdated. Therefore, skills-based hiring is becoming critical. Simply put, you want to hire people for what they can do, not for what they've done. So, instead of thoughtfully considering a candidate's resume, put them to the test. See if they can perform the task you need, and evaluate their personalities and mindsets. That will give you a better understanding of their capabilities and capacities than noting that they managed a team in 2004. Once hired, though, team members must be able to pivot and learn new skills. Therefore, effective employee development programs are essential. "Our current approach to talent isn't going to be enough for the future. We cannot hire enough people with the right skills to meet the needs of new roles, business transformations, and strategies," said Annee Bayeux, chief learning strategist at Degreed. "It is only through upskilling and reskilling that you can prepare your organization for the future."
