If You’re Not Providing Development Opportunities, Employees Will Find an Organization That Does

If you can’t support employee growth and advancement at your organization, expect people to quit—particularly young people. According to a recent study, 74 percent of millennials and Gen Zers think they will find better opportunities for advancement if they leave their current jobs, and this is a huge motivating factor. The same study revealed that 89 percent of respondents said they are extremely motivated to improve their skills, and 76 percent cited the uncertainty caused by the global health crisis as the reason. These folks are motivated to improve themselves, and if an organization isn’t providing them the opportunities they’re looking for, they’re happy to look elsewhere. Two out of three respondents to the survey said they are extremely or somewhat likely to leave their organizations in the next year, and 64 percent cited a lack of development opportunities as the reason.
