Tips for Increasing Productivity

Increasing productivity is one of the most important goals of any organization; however, in the face of a rapidly changing labor market and rapidly decreasing employee engagement levels, how can business leaders improve their employees’ diligence and efficiency? First, ensure that support is streamlined. Traditional support structures are inefficient at best and frustrating at worst. Make sure that information and solutions are readily available to employees and ensure that management is committed to removing employees’ obstacles. Another major stumbling block in improving productivity is communication breakdowns. Inconsistent messaging and unexplained expectations are tremendous determinants to productivity—make sure that lines of communication are open and that feedback is encouraged. Finally, lack of supervision can hamstring productivity efforts. No matter how dedicated and skilled employees are, senior-level managers need to check in with them and provide encouragement and helpful criticism. Make sure that feedback is consistent and that the employee knows they are supported through the process.
