A New Years Resolution Optimize Older Workers

The article focuses on the benefits of employing older workers. According to the Society of Human Resource Management about 59 percent of its members do not recruit older workers and about 65 percent do nothing for the learning of the older workforce. But it is estimated that the older workforce can increase productivity with their skill, knowledge and experience. The longer the people are able to work the larger their contribution to the economy of a country. According to the article "Old, Smart, Productive," published in the June 27, 2005 issue of the journal "Business Week," if the older workers get a chance to work more, there will be an increase of 9 percent in gross domestic product of the United States by the year 2045. This article also identifies some benefits of older workers including educated talent base, experienced talent base and relief on economic infrastructure. The older generation has got more formal education than any other generation in the history of America. The best thing about older workers is that they do not need training and the companies can utilize their knowledge, skills and abilities for positive performance outcome.
