Hands-free use of cellular telephone while driving can be more dangerous than driving while legally drunk, according to a new study by researchers at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah as of September 1, 2003. Using earphones may free hands but it impairs visual awareness and slows reaction time—similar to having a 0.08 blood alcohol level considered legally under influence in most states.
