The article cites the studies made by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and the Ethics Resource Center Inc. (ERC) regarding how managers reinforce proper behavior in employees. The IABC study showed that 68% of the communication professionals stated that managers were immediately reprimanded if found behaving unethically for personal gain and 51% thought that the manager should be admonished if the behavior is intended for corporate gain. The study conducted by the ERC found that 88% pointed that their supervisors disciplined employees who infracted ethical standards. However, the percentage of employees who reported that their supervisors examined ethical conduct as a part of their performance decreased from the last survey conducted by the group in 2003.
