The article reports that realities of Web-based training (WBT) and its potential for meeting an organization's learning needs are sometimes not in line with prevalent industry thinking. One of keys to converting instructor-led training to the Web is an environment in which individuals are able to attach meaning to what they learn. WBT is most successful when it encourages participants to strive toward new levels of self-directedness and competency. Moving training to the Web often seems like the ideal way to save or make money for an organization.
